Hi everyone,

Please come help out tomorrow.

What: Anti-slaughterhouse demonstration
When: Monday, November 9, 5 p.m.
Where: City Hall, 714 Ridge Rd., Lackawanna

Please join local animal advocates to challenge the opening of a live-animal market and slaughterhouse within the city of Lackawanna.

A live-animal market and slaughterhouse does not fall under federally mandated guidelines established through the Humane Slaughter Act passed by Congress. This means animals may be fully conscious when their throats are cut. Animals then will be hung upside down by one leg and left to bleed out, kicking and screaming for up to an hour in most cases. Often, these poor animals suffer from injuries while dangling on these hoists.

Local activists need concerned citizens to join them to protest the building of such a facility in Lackawanna. Please help them pass out leaflets and hold signs, which will be provided. Just bring yourself and anyone you can recruit to join you. Contact Jeffery L. Termini at 716-380-7667 or humanehuman@roadrunner.com for further details or to RSVP...or just show up as I said I'd be bringing people.

hey i am maybe moving to buffalo from seattle. can you give me any good places to eat at? i pretty much live off of vietnamese right not, but there is a kick ass vegan rastafarian place around the corner from my house which i would be sad to leave. so if you know of any good places that would help me cope that would be appreciated.

also is there ethiopian food in town?
So I've finally decided to get a tattoo..

Now to find a place that:
a. Does a good job at a good price.
b. Uses vegan ink.
c. Is clean & won't give me the Aids.

Suggestions appreciated.

Anyone know if any of that applies to American Skin Art (is it even still called that?) on Webster in Tonawanda?

Oh - also, I have no clue what the deal is re: cost/tipping. I'm getting a small tattoo on my wrist. Price/tipping guess-timates would be awesome as well.

(Side note - If you go to Buff State & are awesome or even remotely awesome, let's be friends! - I get lonely on campus with strangers everywhere.)

The Energy Shortage

* 1/3 of the all raw materials consumed in this country goes toward meat, egg, and dairy production.
* The animal-based American diet is so inefficient, that it turns out that it is actually more energy-efficient to drive than walk. So much fossil fuel goes into producing the meat we eat, and so few calories result from it, that putting the gas directly into your car, assuming it gets 24 or more miles to the gallon, is more efficient than eating animal products and walking
* Grain, vegetable, and fruit production requires less than 5% of the raw materials that animal products require.

* America's livestock population produces twenty times as much excrement as its human one. Animals produce 250,000 pounds of excrement per second, half of which can in no way be recycled.
* Cattle ranchers destroy tropical rainforests to provide grazing land for cattle, to in turn provide beef for Americans to eat. At the current rate of destruction, all of Central America's tropical rainforests will be gone in less than 40 years. Since 1 967, we have cannibalized one acre of forest every second. At that rate of destruction, America will have no forests in 40 years.

* According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, a vegetarian diet can prevent 97% of heart attacks.
* Studies have shown a direct correlation between meat consumption and colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and lung cancer. Every 55 seconds another American succumbs to cancer.
* Colon cancer: meat and animal products rotting in the intestine release carcinogenic toxins, which cause the cancer.
* Breast cancer: high levels of estrogen and dioxin (a pesticide which acts like estrogen in the body) in animal products, overstimulates breast cells and eventually sets off the uncontrolled growth that is cancer.

hello everyone... I'm starting my search a little early but I'm 23 F moving home from the NYC metro region to regroup and go back to school in Buffalo. I'm a vegetarian, cat-owner and cool in that dorky sort of way. I love The Office (us version) and am looking to sign a lease on a place Sep/Oct 1... I'm looking in the allen/elmwood/kleinhans/delware area and would like it to be quiet, relaxed and chilled out - none of that crazy house party action on elmwood, i have enough friends' apartments to get that...

i have a craigslist ad up...laaaame i know, but oh well.

Bikinis are killer?
I'm a UB student living in Syracuse for the summer, and I have a terrible craving for Cait's Plate (as served at Amy's Place). Does anyone know of a recipe that's similar to that? I would love to be able to make something that would hold me over until I can visit Buffalo again. Thanks!
